Amazing hotel. Perfect way to experience Jogja.
This hotel is fantastic. The facilities are amazing - great bar/restaurant, breakfast top notch, friendly staff, on site gym and spa (had massages on two consecutive days because it was so good!), pool… love the decor and the atmosphere because it’s so green and verdant… feels like an indoor jungle. The whole hotel feels like a spa. Somehow bug-free despite being full of plants. We splashed out on a suite (still very affordable) and it was worth every penny. Having a bath was so nice and the view of Merapi/the city was awesome. Hotel has a great location, easy to get picked up by a Grab within a few minutes every time we tried and even walked back from the city centre once. Can’t fault it at all. 10/10.

Greenhost Boutique Hotel markets itself as an eco-friendly haven, and its lush design and greenery certainly create a serene atmosphere. However, my experience was deeply disappointing. The staff’s demeanor felt forced, with smiles and greetings that came across as insincere, evoking an unsettling vibe reminiscent of the movie Smile. This undermined the warm and welcoming atmosphere I expected. My room added to the disappointment. The air conditioning reset itself to 24°C every few hours, making it hard to sleep in the tropical heat. The bed was uncomfortably firm, comparable to the cardboard beds of the Olympic Village, and the lack of soundproofing made it impossible to ignore noise from neighboring rooms. To make matters worse, the mosque’s speakers nearby made restful sleep unattainable without earplugs, which the hotel failed to provide. The amenities were equally lackluster. The spa shared space with the gym, creating an awkward environment for both. The pool, located by the breakfast area, lacked privacy and relaxation. Breakfast itself was appalling—a limited selection of reheated or recycled items, some still cold. One morning, I bit into a cake only to discover it was moldy and had a revolting taste. While the hotel’s eco-friendly concept and aesthetic charm hold promise, the lack of comfort, poor soundproofing, subpar amenities, and unacceptable food quality make it impossible to recommend. This was one of the most disappointing stays I’ve ever experienced.

With all the greenery and plants everywhere, this hotel is beautiful to walk into. Check in was great, we arrived early and were able to leave our bags until it was time to check in. We also did this on our last day, as we had a late flight. The room was adequate, comfy bed and big shower. Just be aware that there is a frosted glass panel between the bathroom and bedroom (in the room we were in anyway). You can't see in, but it is bright into the bedroom during the night - if that bothers you. There is no fridge in the room which we found hard as we had bought some of our own drinks and snacks. Breakfast was okay, and the gym is really good. The pool is in the centre of the building and looks amazing, has a glass roof above, which is partially open. I was a bit apprehensive about swimming becuase of the location (near the breakfast area etc), but it was fine, and quite relaxing. The location is fantastic. You are about a 25 min walk to Malioboro Street, and the next street along has some great restaurants.

The hotel is stylish and relaxing. The location is close to lots of dining and shops but located in a quiet area. The pool, lobby, and restaurant all occupy one large space but it feels less like a hotel and more like a tropical rain forest inside. The lush greenery is breathtaking and refreshing. Every detail is carefully chosen to fit the aesthetic design of the hotel. I highly recommend the breakfast upgrade for guests but even without including it in the room price, the food is a great value and did not disappoint. The selection of both Western and Indonesian cuisine in addition to the fresh fruit juices made eating at the Art Kitchen Resto a treat. One other thing to mention is the dedication to sustainable tourism. The hotel does a wonderful job at helping to make guests aware of eco-friendly options such as reusable glass bottles in guestrooms instead of disposable plastic and signage about disposing of items properly instead of flushing it to preserve clean oceans. I definitely plan to stay again.
