Want to explore as many places as possible during your vacation? Not a fan of public transportation? Prefer off-the-beaten-path routes? Then long-term car rental during your trip is perfect for you. This way, you have full control over your movements and can create your own travel itinerary, adjusting it to any preferences. Here’s everything you need to know about car rental for Russians and Belarusians abroad in three popular tourist destinations — UAE, Turkey, and Thailand.
The rules for car rentals in Dubai, as in other countries, are standard. Drivers must be over 21 years old with at least 12 months of driving experience. An important requirement is having an international credit card. Without it, it’s almost impossible to place a deposit online when booking a car.
The driver age requirements are the same — over 21 years old with at least one year of driving experience. Payment is simpler — small local companies often offer car rental without a deposit, accept cash, and debit cards as payment. However, international chains require a credit card for the deposit. If you’re interested in car rental in Antalya, Istanbul, and other tourist spots, be prepared for high prices and strong demand.
Here, the rules are also standard — drivers must be over 21 (in rare cases, 18) and have more than one year of driving experience. There are many payment options: cash, all major cards, or a combination — depending on the company you choose. Large companies operate under strict international standards, but with locals, you can often negotiate the payment method that works best for you.
If you want to drive around Dubai, prepare the following documents:
Turkish authorities are less strict. If you plan to stay less than six months, an international license is not required — just your national driver’s license (important: the details must be shown in Latin letters) and your passport.
The authorities require an international driver’s license, but many local companies also rent cars based on national licenses with Latin-letter data. If you have time, it’s best to get an international license to avoid any issues. Don’t forget your passport and electronic voucher if you booked online.
The final price depends on the car class, its condition, rental duration, and additional options. Another cost factor is insurance. In most cases, basic coverage is included in the price, but it’s better to choose a more comprehensive package — it costs more (several dozen dollars per day), but in case of an accident, it helps avoid huge expenses.
For an economy-class car, expect to pay from $30 to $50. Mid-range cars cost up to $150, while luxury car rentals have practically no limits — prices start at $1,000 per day.
Car rentals in Turkey are cheaper. Economy cars cost $20-$50, mid-range around $50-$100, and premium options start at about $200.
This country offers the best prices. They start at $20-$40 for economy models, mid-range cars cost $40-$70, and “luxury” cars can be found from $100-$150. Local small companies offer the cheapest options. Also, consider bikes and scooters.
