Guide: what to see and try in Kuala Lumpur?

One of the most popular cities in the world and Malaysia is Kuala Lumpur. In addition to architecture, the capital of the state can offer shopping. There are also family amusement parks, tropical gardens, an aquarium, many restaurants, and a very developed nightlife.

What sights to see?

  • Batu Caves is one of the most popular attractions among tourists. The complex of rocks and carved caves with temples is known as Batu Caves. The temples located here are Hindu and are still considered an important place of pilgrimage today. The complex consists of four caves: Ramayana Cave, Villa Cave, Dark Cave and Light Cave.
  • The Petronas Towers are considered the symbol of Kuala Lumpur. Almost every tourist considers it his duty to take a photo against their background and walk along the “sky” bridge connecting the two towers.
  • The bird park in Kuala Lumpur is considered to be one of the largest in the world and boasts the largest collection of birds. Most of them are kept without a cage. For an additional fee you can feed the birds yourself. You can also catch a bird show, which lasts about 30 minutes.
  • The Sri Mahamariamman Temple has not only architectural but also historical value. It was built in 1873. Considered to be the oldest Hindu religious building in Kuala Lumpur. Inside you can see ceramic tiles from Italy and Spain, precious stones and gold, and statues of gods.
  • The butterfly park captivates with its inhabitants, and it itself looks like a tropical forest. It is home to more than 120 species of large and small butterflies with different colors. Please note that you will have to pay extra for photography and videography. And no tripods.

Transport

There are no problems with transport in Kuala Lumpur. However, if you prefer a taxi, keep in mind that there are often huge traffic jams in the city.
Calling a taxi in Kuala Lumpur is not a problem. The main thing is to pay attention to the meter, as often unscrupulous taxi drivers can quote a higher amount. From midnight to six in the morning the cost will increase significantly. It is better to pay for travel in local currency.
The rail type of transport can be combined into one system. These are the city metro (Light Rail Transit/Mass Rapid Transit), monorail line (Monorail Line) and commuter trains (KTM Komuter). Here you can see routes and schedules of the monorail and metro.
There are about 165 bus routes. They connect all areas of the city. Almost all buses have air conditioning. You can pay the fare from the driver. More detailed information about routes, schedules and prices can be found here .
There are also free buses. They do not have numbers, but can be distinguished by their colors. You can find information on their official website .

Beaches

You won't find beaches in Kuala Lumpur. You'll have to get to Langkawi or Penang. Beaches in Langkawi are famous for their white sandy beaches. They are loved by both locals and tourists. One of the best here is Chenang. Here you can find a huge number of cafes, restaurants, bars and, of course, souvenir shops. There is also a large selection of hotels. Many people choose Chenang for holidays with children.

Tengazh Beach. Located nearby, south of Cenang Beach. It is important that there are not many all-inclusive hotels on the island. More often there are those where there is only breakfast. Tengah Beach is a continuation of Chenang, only there are fewer people there. From here you can quickly get to the pier and go on excursions around the islands.

It is on the beaches of Chenang and Tengah that the sun sets into the ocean, and due to this, the sunsets here are magical.

The beaches in Penang are also famous for their white sands. But you can swim and relax only on well-maintained beaches. In other places, the water can be quite dirty, and quite a lot of jellyfish live here. Some of the popular and best beaches on the island are Teluk Bahang, Tanjung Bungah and Telun Bahang.
