Discover the island of Langkawi: review of The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa 5*

Malaysia can safely be called a state of small islands - there are 878 of them in total (and 510 minor geographical features - rocks, shoals and ridges!). Most are very small and cover an area of less than 200 km². Among the larger ones, Langkawi stands out. It is located approximately 30 km off the coast of northwestern Malaysia.
The first information about it appeared from Chinese sailors. But over the past centuries, Langkawi has gone through several difficult periods, for some time it was even believed that the island was cursed, and it was also a haven for pirates! The territory was captured several times by the Siamese. It was also under British control until Malaysia gained independence in 1957.
Langkawi received a new lease of life in 1986 when Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad turned it into a major tourist resort. This was facilitated by the amazing nature of the island. On June 1, 2007, UNESCO designated Langkawi as a World Geopark. In addition to amazing landscapes, attractions can also be found in the capital of the district - the city of Kuah.
Explore the island's highlights with a stay at The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa. It occupies a private area on a pristine Andaman Sea beach near the town of Kuah.

Location

Langkawi can be reached by sea and air. The pier connects the island with the main Malaysian ports - Kuala Perlis, Kuala Kedah, Penang and Tamalang. From October to June there is also a ferry service to the city of Satun and Koh Lipe in Thailand. Langkawi International Airport in Kuah is accessible from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Penang and Subang. The resort has a private, comfortable lounge for guests to enjoy.
You can get to The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa 5* from the airport in 25 minutes by car (distance about 20 km). And the city center of Kuah is even closer - just a few minutes' drive. Important - there is no public transport on the island; most often tourists and locals use taxis. There are also rental points for bicycles, motorcycles and cars.

Housing

Guests of The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa 5* have access to rooms or suites in the main hotel building and individual villas. All rooms are decorated in a minimalist style with a marine theme. The bright interior is complemented by modern furniture and fixtures. Some rooms have private balconies or patios. They also differ in views - one part of the windows overlooks the garden, the other overlooks the ocean.
20 luxury villas are built next to a large swimming pool. There are houses with 1, 2 or 5 bedrooms that can accommodate up to 20 people. Each also has a spacious living room and kitchenette. This is a great option for families or groups of friends.

Entertainment

Thanks to the resort's convenient location, guests of The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa 5* can easily explore the entire island. Staff can help organize a cycling tour or excursion. It’s best to start with unique natural sites and protected areas.
First of all, visit The Kilim Karst Geoforest Park - a mangrove forest park consisting of limestone caves and interconnected river mouths. It is home to many native species of birds and animals - bats, crocodiles, eagles, kingfishers, monitor lizards, macaques, otters and tree crabs.
The Cable car and Sky Bridge, located directly above the tropical forest, also deserves attention. It takes visitors to the top of Mount Gunung Mat Chinchang. The sky bridge is 125 meters long and is located at an altitude of 660 meters. It offers an incredible view.
After exploring nature, head to Kuah. On the embankment near the pier there is an unusual sculpture - a 12-meter eagle sitting on the rocks in a pre-flight pose. This bird is the emblem of the island. There is a theory that its name comes from the Malay word for eagle.
Another place worth visiting is MAHA Tower Langkawi. This is the second tallest tower in Malaysia - it reaches 138 meters. It is also worth taking a look at one of the largest and most popular religious buildings in Langkawi - The Al-Hana Mosque. The design of the building contains Uzbek motifs and carvings, as well as traditional Malay elements.
Be sure to check out the Langkawi Legend Park, dedicated to the myths and fairy tales of the island. Under the open sky there are picturesque gardens of fruit trees, ponds and fountains. And hidden between them are 17 sculptures depicting famous heroes of local folklore and mythical creatures.

After exploring the island, return to your hotel and relax at the luxurious Heavenly Spa by Westin. For those who like to swim, not only the sea coast is available, but also four swimming pools. Cool off in the clear water or relax under one of the umbrellas. Active guests will enjoy morning yoga classes on the beach, games of squash and billiards, or golf courses with panoramic views.
And for children there will be a variety of entertainment at the Westin family children's club. Here boys and girls will be introduced to the traditions and sights of the island of Langkawi. Together with the staff, they explore the shore and learn more about the local flora and fauna.
In case of unexpected work issues, resort guests have access to an international conference center with modern equipment and interactive multimedia technologies.
