A VAT exemption is available to travelers who present a valid passport and tourist visa showing they are not a resident of Uruguay. Note if you are a resident of Uruguay and your stay is between 15 November to the day after Easter you will be asked to pay VAT. For any stays outside these dates, you are exempt from VAT.
